What Is Global Chat?
When you link a channel to the Prowl Global Chat network, every message sent in that channel is relayed to every other linked channel across all participating servers. Replies flow back the same way — making it feel like one large, shared conversation happening simultaneously across multiple communities. Messages are prefixed with the sender’s username and server name so participants always know who they’re talking to:Global Chat is completely free and requires no special bot permissions beyond the ability to read and send messages in the linked channel.

How Messages Are Relayed
When a member sends a message in a linked channel:- Prowl captures the message content and any attachments
- The message is forwarded via webhook to every other linked channel across all servers
- The message is prefixed with
{username} ({servername})so recipients know who sent it - Content is truncated to 1000 characters if it exceeds the limit
- Attachments are shown as
[attachment]since they cannot be cross-relayed
All participating servers must have Prowl added. The network connects all linked channels — there is no way to link to specific servers only.
Network Rules
The Global Chat network is shared infrastructure, so Prowl enforces network-wide rules that apply to all participating servers. Messages that violate these rules are automatically removed from all connected channels. The network rules prohibit:Tips for a Great Experience
Use a Dedicated Channel
Always link Global Chat to a purpose-built channel like
#global-chat. Mixing it with local chat creates a confusing experience for your members.Set Channel Topic
Use the channel topic to explain what Global Chat is. Something like “Chat with members from other Prowl servers in real time!” goes a long way.
Appoint Moderators
Make sure at least one moderator actively watches the Global Chat channel, especially if your server is large. Quick moderation keeps things tidy.
Enable Slowmode
Enabling Discord’s built-in slowmode (5–10 seconds) on your linked channel prevents flooding and keeps conversations readable.
